Happy Spooky Season!

October is an exciting month, with so much to look forward to. It's almost like a second spring. With the early morning sunshine and afternoon showers that will soon be snowfall, fall appears & I start to reflect on the upcoming holidays, cold weather, and end of year festivities.

Halloween is all about being someone else, but lately I can't fathom stepping out of my day-to-day responsibilities for even a day. What about a day for fun, or a day for rest? Although I am working through Halloween festivities, I invite you to ask yourself the same questions. What kind of you do you want to be? Do you feel free to step out of your routine, or trapped in the mundane?

Best of the Month

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) held their annual conference in NYC. Conferences are complicated. Although they offer great information & networking opportunities, it does mean taking time away from actually working & getting better at your craft. I was unable to attend this year (I was working - sigh), but I did watch a few live-streamed panels + tried to soak as much info as possible. There were interesting & informative panels hosted by Mix with the Masters that I tuned into + Neumann's reissue of the M49 (one of my favorite mics to sing on).

So, is it essential to go? No. Is it fun? Probably. Can you make your own DIY-AES experience from home? Hell yes! If you want to be there in person, The AES show will be back next October (10/25-10/27/23). Save the date!

Other people being awesome...

"Brooklyn Only Rains" by Sarah Gross

Proud parent moment for both Sarah and I! This is the first piece of work that I engineered that has made its way into the world. This song is special because it was created with such a great friend, but also recorded, mixed, and mastered by female identifying audio professionals! Give it a listen >>

"Thought I'd See You Again" by Charlotte Cornfield

Charlotte's songwriting and vocal hooks make me nostalgic, both for the time when we were recording these songs but for emotions I wasn't even sure I had. This song was produced by Josh Kaufman, recorded, mixed & mastered by D. James Goodwin with additional engineering and assistance by yours truly. Give it a spin! >>
